"That depends on what you want. . ."
How many time have you heard that when planning your remodel?
In this post we're going to take the opposite approach and look at a total bathroom remodel with a budget of $8,000 for a 5 x 9 bathroom. We've set a budget of $8,000 for this example, to demonstrate that it allows a great deal of choice in shopping for quality materials and finishes while also including a realistic amount for labor.
Tub with surround | $1,000 |
Mixing valve, spigot, showerhead | $200 |
Vanity with top | $500 |
Mirror | $200 |
Faucet | $100 |
Light fixture | $100 |
Toilet | $150 |
LVT flooring, shoe moulding | $300 |
Plumbing supplies | $250 |
Dumpster rental - old tub, toilet, vanity, etc. | $400 |
Labor | $4,000 |
Drywall, paint, mud, misc. consumables | $250 |
Total | $7,450 |
** In our experience, this labor budget would typically be adequate for demo of the old bathroom, and installation of all listed materials. It assumes no repairs for damaged wood, no moving drain or supply lines, no moving electrical outlets or switches, and that existing flooring is not removed.
But the total is $7450, not $8,000, you say? That's right, there are hundreds of dollars left in the budget for more for shower curtains, bath mats, new towels, and even upgrades to the budgeted items above.
The example above is just that, an example; but it is reasonable, based on our experience. Want to know what your project would cost? Call us today to find out!
